ANNE O KEEFFE, Director, B.Sc. TEFL
Anne spent nearly four years in Korea where she taught university students of all levels. She has also taught in Europe and Ireland. Anne looks after recruitment &
training, syllabus preparation, student assessment, social programme
co-ordination, student accommodation, student assessment (placement &
progress) and student Visa & student card requirements. As Director of Celtic School of English, she has developed the school so that she knows every student and strives to help them. She recognises the difficulties students have when learning English and focuses on a student's weaknesses as well as strengths to help them improve.
ALISON BOARDMAN, Director, BA, DELTA, MA
Alison started her career in
English Language Teaching (ELT) in 1990 in Dublin (LCI) and subsequently taught
in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Polytechnic) and Portugal
(International House Lisbon, Porto and Braga). She was promoted to senior
teacher in Braga after completing her Diploma in TELF (DELTA), and then Director of
Studies in Porto. While working as Director
of Studies at International House Porto, Alison developed a keen interest in
student motivation/independent learning and computer assisted language learning. Alison returned to Ireland
to complete a degree (hons) in Informations Systems Management and her MA (by
research) in Online Language Learning Strategies in 2000. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of Limerick in
the area of learner autonomy and computer applications in TEFL (ICT). Alison is particularly interested in
promoting learner independence/autonomy using the web and instructional design
using Moodle.
DEIRDRE KEARNEY, BA, PGDE
Deirdre obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in
Education and a BA in Language & Cultural Studies from University College
Cork and well as attending a number of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign
Language - French) courses. Deirdre has
worked for schools in both Ireland and France and has experience in teaching
Cambridge Intermediate and Advanced General English to all age groups as well
as English conversation classes to Asylum Seekers.
JEAN BRASSIL, BA, CELTA
Jean graduated with an honours degree in
English and Classical Civilisation from NUI Galway. After earning her RELSA
TEFL qualification, she spent over two years working in EFL in South Korea,
working in Incheon National Maritime High School. She was involved in course
design and assessment methods and marking criteria applied for General English
and Maritime English modules.
GERARD BAMBURY, B.Ed, Diploma TESOL
Gerard is an experienced teacher with a
well-developed career in a variety of educational settings in both national and
international fields. He has taught in Primary, Vocational and Tertiary
Education in Ireland and the UAE. After teaching in Ireland
for 8 years, he moved to the UAE and remained there for over 17 years after
realising the potential to experience cross-cultural interaction and teaching
and also the opportunity to use varied learning resources and work with an
international team of educators. With a particular interest in ‘learned
helplessness’, Gerard likes students to be active and independent learners and
always endeavours to promote independence among students.
JOANNE NI SHUILLEABHAIN, BA. Grad Dip EFL
Joanne holds a BA in French and Russian from Trinity College. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching
English as a foreign Language from University of Limerick and a MA from University of Brighton. Joanne is an IELTS speaking
and writing examiner - first certified in 1998. She has worked for
the British Council in Moscow from 1997-99, and for the British Council in Rabat from
1999-2001. She was also a tutor at the
University of Sussex from 2001-2003, an
EFL Tutor for Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh - Research Associate
in Applied Linguistics Dept. on a European funded project 2004-2005. Joanne
worked for the British Council in Rangoon
from 2005-2006.
ABIGAIL MCDONNELL, BSc. CELTA, MSc
Abigail graduated from University College
Cork (UCC) with an honours degree in Social Science in 2003. Having completed a
CELTA (Certificate for English Language Teaching to Adults) in a language
school in Barcelona, Spain she went on
to teach English as a foreign language in various international schools in
Spain, Thailand and London. While in London, she studied modules in MA Medical
Anthropology (School of Oriental and African Studies) before moving home to
Ireland in 2008. She has been teaching IELTS in the IT, Tralee since
January 2011 while completing an MSc. thesis in Food Marketing (UCC). Abigail has experience in teaching Advanced General
English as well as attending regular inhouse training and induction sessions.
TARA KENNEDY, BA, CELTA
Tara graduated from the University of Limerick with
an honours degree in Language and Cultural Studies and has completed a CELTA
(Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) from University College
Cork. Tara has experience of teaching
EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in Qatar and
Mexico, as well as teaching French and Spanish in Ireland. Tara
completed a module entitled ‘The Methodology of English Language Teaching’
whilst an Erasmus student at the University of Granada and obtained a
congratulatory letter of recognition from the President of the University of
Limerick for outstanding exam results.
